Patent Paralegal

Job description

Dilworth IP is seeking an experienced full-time Patent Paralegal for its busy IP practice. This position requires a self-starter who is highly organized and possesses excellent communication, prioritization, and problem-solving skills. Significant experience in the filing and prosecution of US, PCT, and foreign patent applications is required. A proficiency in the Rules and Procedures of the PTO for the US and various foreign jurisdictions is also required. Experience with filing and prosecuting trademark applications and with docketing procedures is preferred.

This position is fully remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, review, and electronically file U.S. and foreign patent applications, amendments, and responses using USPTO EFS-Web and other international systems, including the calculation and payment of fees through USPTO deposit account
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with USPTO and foreign patent office regulations and deadlines
  • Communicate and coordinate with clients, foreign associates, and various PTOs for the preparation and timely filings of various documents
  • Review and act upon materials received from the USPTO, foreign PTOs, foreign associates, and clients and reporting to same as necessary
  • Monitor the IP docket for deadlines. Communicate and work closely with the attorneys to ensure all matters are handled in a timely fashion
  • Act in a supporting role for several firm patent attorneys

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of relevant experience as a patent paralegal
  • Proficient knowledge of relevant laws, regulations and procedures of the USPTO, WIPO, and various foreign PTOs
  • A high level of professionalism with very strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proficiency with Foundation IP or other similar docketing system
  • Ability to work independently, but within a team environment
  • Ability to prioritize well and adjust to interruptions and changing priorities
  • Demonstrate a high level of initiative, judgment, and accuracy/attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion

Desired:

  • BS/BA degree preferred
  • Paralegal degree or certification preferred
  • Experience with post-grant adversarial proceedings and/or litigation

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
