### **Position Summary:**

The Pathology Lab Phlebotomist Manager oversees and coordinates all activities of the phlebotomy and specimen collection departments within the pathology laboratory. This role ensures high-quality patient care, accurate specimen collection, efficient workflow, regulatory compliance, and effective staff supervision. The manager serves as a liaison between phlebotomists, laboratory personnel, physicians, and patients.

### **Key Responsibilities:**

* **Leadership & Supervision:**

* Manage, schedule, and supervise phlebotomists and specimen collection staff across all shifts.

* Provide training, mentoring, and performance evaluations for phlebotomy personnel.

* Foster a positive, professional, and safe working environment.

* **Operations Management:**

* Oversee daily phlebotomy operations to ensure timely and accurate specimen collection.

* Ensure proper labeling, handling, and transportation of specimens to maintain integrity.

* Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for specimen collection and processing.

* Coordinate with laboratory technologists and pathologists to meet testing and reporting timelines.

* **Quality Assurance & Compliance:**

* Monitor and enforce compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory standards.

* Conduct regular audits and quality checks to ensure adherence to protocols.

* Investigate and resolve specimen collection errors or patient complaints.

* **Customer Service:**

* Ensure phlebotomy services are provided with empathy, professionalism, and patient safety.

* Address issues or concerns from patients, physicians, and clinical staff promptly.

* **Administrative Duties:**

* Manage phlebotomy supply inventory and place orders as needed.

* Prepare departmental reports, productivity metrics, and performance summaries.

* Assist in budgeting, staffing, and policy development for the laboratory department.

### **Qualifications:**

* **Education:**

* Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Healthcare Administration, or related field (preferred).

* Certification in Phlebotomy required (e.g., ASCP, NHA, AMT, or equivalent).

* **Experience:**

* Minimum 3–5 years of phlebotomy experience, including at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or management role within a clinical or pathology laboratory.

* **Skills & Competencies:**

* Strong leadership, communication, and team management abilities.

* In-depth knowledge of laboratory safety and specimen handling standards.

* Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.

* Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).
