Pathways Teacher/Librarian

The First Branch Unified School District, serving the communities of Chelsea and Tunbridge, Vermont, is seeking a dynamic and student-centered educator to serve as our Librarian and Pathways Teacher for the 20262027 school year. This full-time position is based at the Chelsea Campus and will support students in grades PreK and 5th8th.This unique role blends the responsibilities of a school librarian with teaching our Pathways class, a course designed to help students explore identity, personal interests, future aspirations, and real-world skills through project-based learning and social-emotional development.We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about reading, inquiry-based learning, and helping students discover who they are and what they love. The ideal candidate will create a welcoming, inclusive library space and develop engaging Pathways lessons aligned with our school mission: We are Kind. We are Strong.

We are Well.In 8th grade, the Pathways course also supports students in the development and completion of their Capstone Projects. Students engage in long-term projects connected to their interests, future goals, and community connections while building presentation, research, and reflection skills.Library ResponsibilitiesManage and maintain a vibrant, student-friendly library spaceCurate a diverse and inclusive collection that reflects student interests and supports curriculum needsCollaborate with classroom teachers to support literacy and research instructionTeach library and media literacy skills to students in grades PreK and 5th8thPromote reading through book talks, displays, reading challenges, and author visitsPathways Teaching ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement a Pathways curriculum for middle school students focused on self-discovery, project-based learning, career exploration, and future readinessSupport 8th grade students in developing and completing Capstone Projects connected to their interests and future aspirationsIncorporate goal-setting, digital portfolios, reflection practices, and collaboration into Pathways classesBuild connections with community partners for guest speakers, mentorship opportunities, or mini-internshipsFoster a safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment where student voice and choice are valuedQualificationsVermont educator license or eligibility for licensure requiredCertification in Library/Media Specialist preferred or willingness to pursueExperience working with PreK8 students in a school settingStrong organizational, communication, and collaboration skillsEnthusiasm for literacy, social-emotional learning, and student-centered instructionBenefits IncludeCompetitive salary based on the negotiated agreementPaid coursework (up to 6 credits per year)Health and dental insurance, retirement options, and wellness incentives
