Patient Access Coordinator – Full-Time or Part-Time

Reports to: Patient Access Supervisor

Status: Full-Time or Part-Time, Hourly

Compensation: $18.00 – $22.00/hour

Position Summary

Berks Ortho is seeking friendly, team-oriented Patient Access Coordinators to join our front office staff. These professionals are the first point of contact for our patients and play a vital role in creating a warm, welcoming, and efficient experience. This role supports the shared reception space for orthopedic, radiology, and physical therapy services, requiring strong communication skills and a collaborative spirit. Our front office team works together to provide compassionate care, uphold the highest standards of service, and ensure each patient encounter reflects the values of Berks Ortho.

Key Responsibilities

• Greet and check in patients for orthopedic, radiology, and physical therapy appointments
• Answer multi-line phones, direct calls, and assist with general patient inquiries
• Schedule and confirm appointments, manage rescheduling and reminder calls
• Complete insurance pre-registration and verify demographic and insurance information
• Collect copayments and manage the daily cash drawer with accuracy and integrity
• Check out patients and schedule follow-up visits or procedures as needed
• Contribute to shared Epic workqueues and pools, including messages and appointment requests
• Coordinate interpreter services and support accessibility needs when required
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to maintain smooth patient flow
• Participate in departmental huddles and cross-training activities
• Provide consistently excellent customer service with kindness, patience, and professionalism

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Prior experience in customer service (medical office preferred)
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work in a team-based, fast-paced environment
• Comfort with basic computer systems and ability to learn Epic EMR workflows
• Commitment to punctuality, discretion, and patient confidentiality
• Clear criminal background check and child abuse clearance

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using Epic or another electronic health record (EHR) system
• Bilingual in English and Spanish
• Familiarity with basic medical terminology and insurance processes

Work Schedule and Physical Requirements

Full-time and part-time shifts are available. Most work will occur during standard weekday hours, with occasional shifts ending as late as 7:30 PM planned in advance. Weekend shifts are available but not required at this time.

This role involves sitting and standing in a busy reception area and occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
