RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Process patient statements in a timely manner.
2. Review patient statements for errors, identify balances that need to be refiled with insurance.
3. Communicate with patients, clinic staff, coders and billers to ensure accounts and balances are correct.
4. Work with billing specialists to get claims re-filed with the insurance as needed.
5. Answers questions from patients, clerical staff and insurance companies.
6. Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
7. Evaluates patient’s financial status and establishes budget payment plans. Follows and reports status of delinquent accounts.
8. Reviews accounts for possible assignment and makes recommendations to the Billing Supervisor.
9. Process and work returned mail and unprocessed payments from the bank lockbox.
10. Research patient refunds.
11. Be the contact person and process accounts for project access.
12. Prepares information for the collection agency.
13. Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting and resubmitting claims to third party payers.
14. Process patient payments and prepares a daily deposit.
15. Acts as a back up receptionist and covers incoming calls as needed.
16. Participates in educational activities and attends staff meetings.
17. Conducts self in accordance with employee manual.
18. Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
19. Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
· High School Diploma or equivalent
· A minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare office setting
· Attention to detail a must
· Must have the ability to multitask and manage time effectively
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities
· Excellent customer service skills
