Patient Accounts Representative - Long Term Care & Community Programs

I. POSITION

a. The Patient Account Representative is responsible for managing patient billing accounts and ensuring accurate processing of charges, payments, insurance claims, and account balances. This role acts as a liaison between patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to resolve billing issues and ensure timely reimbursement.

II. QUALIFICATIONS

a. Education/Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; supplemented with one year of patient service experience in a health care organization. Medical billing or coding courses are helpful.

III. STANDARD REQUIREMENTS

a. Supports the Mission, Vision and Standards of Behavior at Appleton Area Health

b. Is knowledgeable of patient rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity, and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment.

c. Supports and cooperates with specific procedures and programs for:

  • Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
  • Confidentiality of all data, including patient, employee, and operations data.
  • Quality assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual/ harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.

d. Supports and participates in common teamwork:

  • Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction including appropriate judgment.
  • Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Follows up as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or patients regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Promotes positive public relations with patients, family members and guests.
  • Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, uniform dress codes including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.

IV. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

a. Prepare monthly billings for Care Center, Assisted Living, and Meals on Wheels services.

b. Meet with residents and family members upon admission to obtain accurate financial information.

c. Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility.

d. Review and manage patient accounts to ensure accurate billing and payment processing.

e. Process necessary insurance forms in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner.

f. Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies and claim errors.

g. Routinely review outstanding accounts by monitoring the accounts receivable aging.

h. Respond to third party, patient, and all other inquiries in a timely manner.

i. Prepare and disperse annual rate notices.

j. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.20 - $24.52 per hour

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

Ability to Relocate:

  • Appleton, MN 56208: Relocate before starting work (Required)
