Patient Care Assistant (PCA) /Home Health Aide (HHA)

SUMMARY:

The PCA/HHA will provide routine, scheduled personal care services to home care clients on campus as well as to others in the greater community. Provide assistance with activities of daily living and instrumental activities of daily living including but not limited to bathing, grooming, mobility, light housekeeping, shopping, meal preparation, medication reminders, companionship and driving or accompanying clients to appointments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide routine, scheduled personal care to the client, including but not limited to bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, applying TED hose.
  • Assist client with mobility, including but not limited to walking, transferring, turning, and positioning. Assist client with prescribed exercises to which the client and the aide have been trained.
  • Assist with self-care needs including but not limited to toileting needs, including assistance with bedpan, urinal, bedside commode, toilet use and incontinence care.
  • Plan, shop, prepare, or assist with meal prep and prescribed diets.
  • Assist clients to self-administer medications. Verbally prompt or assist clients to respond to electronic medication reminder systems.
  • Provide housekeeping services, such as bed making, light housework, laundering, pet care, and errand running with client/family’s agreement.
  • Observe, report, and document client status and the care or service furnished.
  • Perform other activities as trained and assigned including but not limited to reading and recording, temperature, pulse, and respiration, Foley catheter care, basic infection control, and emergency procedures and companionship
  • Drive clients to and from appointments, accompanying client to medical appointments as specified in the Care Plan, as well as any other outside appointments.
Requirements:

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Able to read, write, speak English
  • Valid driver's license/clean driving record/proof of vehicle insurance
  • Some health care experience or education
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to use a smart phone for documentation.
  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, work under limited supervision.
  • Must be able to walk up at least 2 flights of stairs and be able to stand and/or walk for a period of at least 4 hours
  • Be able to lift 25 pounds and able to transfer patients safely from bed to chair.

Preferred:

  • Experience as an HHA (Home Health Adie)
  • Senior care experience
