Patient Care Coordinator

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing excellent customer service and guiding them through check-in procedures
  • Manage appointment scheduling using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks
  • Verify insurance coverage, perform insurance eligibility checks, and handle insurance verification processes including Medicare and other payers
  • Collect patient information accurately, update medical records, and review documentation for completeness and compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Assist with medical billing and coding tasks, including CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9/10 (International Classification of Diseases), and ICD coding to ensure accurate claims submission
  • Answer multi-line phone systems professionally, handle appointment rescheduling, patient inquiries, and follow-up calls with excellent phone etiquette
  • Maintain organized medical records, file documents securely, and manage electronic health information using systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix when applicable

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical office administrative role with clinic or dental office experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and health information management standards
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix or Eaglesoft is highly desirable
  • Ability to verify insurance benefits accurately and perform insurance verification efficiently
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and 10-key typing skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and medical records management
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus to serve diverse patient populations effectively
  • Prior experience in front desk operations or medical office management is advantageous
  • Strong communication skills coupled with professional phone etiquette and customer service orientation
  • Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards to safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality
