Patient Care Support Specialist (Multi-Department)

Endocrinology Associates of Roanoke, VA is a privately owned specialty practice that was founded in the Roanoke Valley in 1976 that provides clinical care to people all over the valley and beyond. We educate our patients with endocrine disorders to help them improve the quality of their lives and stress the importance of quality of care given by our physicians and all staff members. Our combined in-office capabilities to offer thyroid ultrasounds, fine needle aspirations, bone densitometry scans, Liver elastography scans, and in-house phlebotomy and laboratory results help us to achieve our goal to provide the most complete care to our patients possible under one roof. We strive to help our patients by creating a positive learning atmosphere that will give them confidence in their ability to maintain at-home care and in the care they receive at Endocrinology Associates.


Our practice is looking for caring, professional team members that can work in an autonomous environment. This is a full-time, cross-functional position designed to support multiple departments within our practice. Team members in this role are scheduled in advance to support specific areas (Front Office, Clinical, Advocate, or Phlebotomy), with occasional adjustments made to provide coverage for planned or unplanned staff absences. This role is ideal for individuals who are adaptable, team-oriented, and comfortable working in multiple areas of a medical practice.


Prospective candidates are not expected to be proficient in all areas. We are open to building a well-rounded Support Specialist team across multiple hires with complementary skill sets. This role may be filled by individuals with strengths in one or more of the following areas: front desk operations, call center environment, patient-facing or behind the scenes clinical support, or phlebotomy, and a demonstrated ability to learn new systems, workflows, and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.


Responsibilities could include, but may not be limited to:


Front Office Support:


  • Check in/ Check Out
  • Scheduling patient appointments
  • Taking calls on a call center structured multi-line phone system

Clinical Team:

  • Prepare and assemble medical record documentation/charts for physician
  • Capture patient vitals and escort them to exam rooms prior to physician exam
  • Provide patient education and counseling on endocrinology-related topics, assisting with refill requests, or giving injections.

Advocate Team:



  • Provide patient education and counseling in relation to their diagnoses.
  • Receive incoming phone calls regarding medications, lab results, or any other care recommended by provider.
  • Assis with prior authorizations, outbound referrals, and follow-up communication.

Phlebotomy (certification required):

  • Perform venipuncture and collect blood specimens from patients
  • Label and organize collected specimens for laboratory testing
  • Register patients into the information systems and orders the appropriate tests as requested by the physician

Job Type: Full-time, In Person, Monday to Friday day shift

Requirements:




    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Experience in at least one of the following areas:

    o Medical front office/call center

    o Clinical/medical assistant support

    o Phlebotomy (certification required)

    Willingness to be cross-trained and work in multiple departments as needed


Preferred (not required):

  • EMR experience
  • Endocrinology experience
