POSITION: Patient Care Technician, Non-certified / Nursing Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)
REPORTS TO: Administrator/Director of Nursing
Job Summary: Provides direct patient care by assisting patients with ambulation, transport and nutrition. Maintains a clean and orderly patient care environment. Assists with patient support duties such as running errands, stocking supplies, counting inventory and updating logs. Demonstrates the primary goal of efficiently providing surgical services that exceed customer expectations and improve clinical and financial operations. Direct patient care and supportive services will be provided under registered nurse supervision.
Education and Experience:
1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
2. Current CPR certification.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Duties
1) Assist patients with dressing and undressing.
2) Assist patients getting in and out of bed and ambulation.
3) Assist with patient discharge by transporting patients as needed
4) Apply BP cuff, ECG electrodes, & pulse oximetry. Obtain VS and reports results.
5) Answers and responds to patient call lights and requests.
6) Obtains or refers visitors to designated areas as needed.
7) Clean stretchers and apply clean linen.
8) Knows location of equipment and supplies.
9) Orders and distributes linen and scrubs.
10) Assist with checking in and distributing stock and supplies.
11) Assist in bringing patients to pre-op for admission by nurse.
12) Ordering patient nourishment and rotating supplies in refrigerators.
13) Assisting with supplies and food expirations.
14) General cleaning in patient care area (ex. Stretchers, bays, recliners)
15) Changing portable oxygen tanks.
16) Keeps hallways free of clutter.
17) Checks/replaces sharps containers.
18) Assist with QI data collection.
19) General reception duties as needed.
2. General Responsibilities
1) Knows and adheres to policies of the ASC and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
2) Follows standards, policies, procedures, goals and objectives for peri-operative nursing care according to accepted standards.
3) Follows OSHA and other standards for protection against bloodborne pathogens. Uses universal precautions.
4) Uses proper body mechanics.
5) Attends in-services and continuing education courses.
6) Attends staff meetings.
7) Provides a safe environment for treating surgical patients to prevent cross-infection.
8) Maintains current CPR certification.
9) Assists in general cleaning.
10) Participates in on-going quality assurance performance improvement programs.
11) Checks designated equipment daily, reporting malfunctions, and takes malfunctioning equipment out of service. Assures availability of required supplies, materials, and equipment.
12) Assists with inventory management system.
13) Maintains patient, physician, and employee privacy and confidentiality per policy.
14) Accepts assignments to other areas in the ASC and performs other duties as assigned.
