Patient Care Technician - PRN

About the Role

We are hiring a compassionate, dependable Patient Care Technician (PCT) to support high-quality, patient-centered care on our Med-Surg unit. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse, this role plays a vital part in daily patient care, safety, and comfort. This Patient Care Technician position is ideal for individuals passionate about hands-on healthcare support in an acute care hospital setting.


What You’ll Do

Direct Patient Care & Support

  • Provide daily personal care, hygiene, mobility assistance, and comfort measures
  • Monitor intake and output, vital signs, and blood glucose, documenting in real time
  • Assist patients with meals, ambulation, repositioning, and range-of-motion activities
  • Observe patient conditions and promptly report changes to nursing staff

Documentation & Clinical Support

  • Accurately document care, observations, and assistance in the medical record
  • Support nurses with admissions, discharges, and bedside clinical tasks
  • Respond to alarms and patient call lights quickly and professionally

Team Collaboration & Unit Operations

  • Communicate patient needs clearly with nurses and healthcare team members
  • Assist across Med-Surg and ICU units as assigned
  • Maintain patient rooms, stock supplies, and support smooth unit operations

Safety, Compliance & Environment

  • Maintain a clean, safe environment following hospital policies and procedures
  • Use patient safety devices and supportive equipment correctly
  • Protect patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and regulatory standards

Work Environment

This is a 100% onsite position at our hospital in Port Clinton, Ohio.

  • High school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience
  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) or relevant clinical experience
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Basic computer skills and ability to document electronically

Preferred

  • Previous experience in an acute care or hospital setting
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Comfort working in fast-paced, team-oriented environments
