Job Summary

We are looking for a patient a Financial Counselor who will be able to meet with cancer patients in a busy office. The Financial Counselor will meet with all new patients and discuss treatment costs as well as explaining insurance benefits for each patient. The Financial Counselor will work with the patients on their financial responsibility so patients can focus on their healthcare. The Financial Counselor will work closely with the front desk, coder, authorization specialists and billing team.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with all new patients to review their insurance benefits
  • Preparing treatment estimates for patients which includes calculating copays or coinsurance
  • Reviewing treatment estimates with patients including how they are based on treatment plan
  • Review financial status with the patient as needed
  • Discussing self- pay payment plans with patients and their families
  • Insurance verification including verifying benefits and obtaining and reviewing appropriate co pay, co insurance and out of pocket costs.
  • Review patient balances and communicate with patient
  • communicating with our billing company including utilizing
  • Review daily schedules in advance to determine copay and coinsurance for patient appointments
  • Collecting timely payment plan balances and supplying the front desk with co=pay and co-insurance collections that are needed
  • Work closely with the billing company to assure payments are received
  • Closing the day out and making any necessary bank deposits.
  • working with the Unity system for treatment authorization and communication with the billing team.
  • Work with various organizations in the community to establish relationships and develop options for patient assistance

Qualifications

The patient financial counselor requires a high school diploma. Associates degree or bachelor’s degree preferred. Medical terminology knowledge is preferred. Experience having done financial counseling, and insurance authorization and verification in a physician’s office/hospital is required. Knowledge of CPT/ICD-10 helpful.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
