Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks related to patient care. This role requires a strong understanding of medical office procedures, EMR systems, and healthcare documentation to ensure smooth clinic operations and accurate patient records. Bilingual skills and clinic experience are highly valued to support diverse patient populations and enhance communication.
Duties
- Greet patients promptly and professionally at the front desk, ensuring a welcoming environment
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification to facilitate billing processes
- Schedule patient appointments using EMR systems such as NextGen, Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks
- Collect co-pays and outstanding balances through medical collections processes
- Manage patient check-in and check-out procedures efficiently, including data entry and documentation review
- Answer multi-line phone systems with proper phone etiquette, directing calls appropriately
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with intake procedures, including collecting medical histories and updating care plans
- Support medical billing activities, including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and Medicare claims processing
- Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure timely patient flow and communication of relevant information
- Handle clerical tasks such as filing, data entry, and managing electronic health records.
- Support office management duties including appointment scheduling, document management, and general administrative support
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment is preferred, especially in clinics or dental offices
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as NextGen, Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, EagleSoft, Dentrix, or similar platforms
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), CPT coding, and health information management practices
- Experience with insurance verification processes for Medicare and other insurance providers
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing proficiency (10-key typing)
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to support diverse patient populations
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and proper handling of protected health information (PHI)
