The Bone and Joint Rehabilitation Services (BJRS) Technician is responsible for assisting in multiple aspects of day to day rehabilitation services. The BJRS Technician works in a collaborative model with the Physical Therapists (PTs), Occupational/Hand Therapists (OT/CHTs), Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) and other members of the BJRS and Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee (BJIT) staff members to assist in providing high quality healthcare. Technicians are responsible for providing therapeutic modalities (ultrasound, electrical stimulation, hot/cold packs, vasopneumatic devices, etc.), administration/clerical assistance, management of linen services, basic equipment maintenance and cleaning, ordering/stocking of rehab supplies, hydrocollator/AED/paraffin bath logs, patient set-up for therapeutic exercise/activity, assistance with patient check-in/out and scheduling, courier duties, and non-skilled assistance with basic exercises. All activity related to patient care must be performed under the direct supervision of a licensed and practicing physical / occupational therapist. Technicians are not allowed to perform any therapy interventions that require clinical decision making/problem solving per the Tennessee State Board of Physical / Occupational Therapy. In addition, BJRS Technician roles include promoting fitness and wellness and provide a positive patient experience. Technicians are expected to conduct all interventions and communication with compassion, patient centric mindset, all the while being cognizant of ethical / legal guidelines.
