JOB SUMMARY

The patient transport driver provides safe, courteous, and efficient transportation of patients to appointments and activities off-campus. This position helps ensure the safety of patients and other staff members during trips and ensures that the assigned vehicle is in safe operating condition

Essential Duties

• Drives an organization-provided vehicle to transport patients safely to other healthcare facilities within Wyoming or surrounding states, as needed.



• Participates with cottage life as needed (for example, helping activities, assisting with cares, culinary tasks)



• Assists patients in getting in and out the vehicle and safely inside their respective destination.



• Ensures the safety of passengers with severe physical, mental, or developmental problems while in vehicle.



• Assists other staff member(s) with patient de-escalation strategies as needed.



• Maintains a professional image and attitude with patients, coworkers and facility staff members.



• Reports any driving hazards, travel delays, accidents and/or passenger incidents to the supervisor.



• Completes vehicle pre-trip and post-trip inspections, trip log, and maintains vehicle cleanliness.



• Adheres to hospital policies and standard operating procedures.



• Any other duties as assigned

POSITION QUALIFICATION - Education, Experience & Licensure

• Current valid Wyoming CNA license or current valid EMT license, required.



• High School diploma or equivalent, required.



• Minimum of 3 years of driving experience required.



• Current valid Wyoming driver’s license.



• BLS, required



• Central Registry, required.

Additional Skills

• Knowledge of safe driving practices.



• Exercises good judgment and extreme caution while operating a vehicle.



• Ability to read and interpret a map and operate/understand GPS devices for driving directions.



• Remains calm and focused in escalated or emergency situations.



• Understands and carries out oral and written instructions independently.



• Exhibits a high degree of tolerance and patience.



• Ability to adhere to HIPAA and confidentiality mandates.

Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products. Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening is required.
