The Patrol Deputy is responsible for performing activities related to the safety and protection of people and property in the County. Responsibilities include patrolling designated areas to observe for crime and being available for emergency response; investigating individual suspicious activities or long-term investigations; enforcing the laws through tickets, citations, or arrests; serving civil process papers and arrest warrants; transporting inmates to facilities; collecting information through interviews; conducting search warrants; preparing reports, information, and documentation; and responding to public requests for information, training, or assistance.

Oversees crime scene investigations to include identifying and interviewing witnesses, gathering and preserving evidence.

Conducts background investigations/record checks on defendants in criminal matters.

Processes Law Enforcement background packets for Sheriff Office applicants.

Develops information for search warrants

Plans, organizes and conducts undercover surveillance for state, local and federal agencies. Work cooperatively with other law enforcement agencies.

Performs required law enforcement services in compliance with laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, policies and procedures on behalf of the County Sheriff’s Office.

Patrols roads; performs traffic control; furnishes road and weather conditions.

Responds to calls and complaints regarding suspected criminal activity; apprehends and/or seeks the prosecution of offenders of local, state and federal statutes.

Works with the court system, attorneys and other law enforcement personnel; contacts various agencies to obtain and verify information.

Investigates traffic accidents; writes accident reports; enforce traffic laws.

Conducts thorough investigations of both criminal and civil acts, and missing people to the best of their ability

Prepares reports on crimes, arrests or incidents; works with prosecuting attorneys; testifies in formal court proceedings.

Prepares various records and data for court processing.

Serves civil papers.

Performs Courtroom security; transports prisoners as needed.

Provides information to the public regarding various topics.

Conduct sex offender registry checks.

Conducts online criminal investigations as part of the ICAC (Internet Crimes against Children) Task Force.

Performs related work and any other duties as required by the Sheriff.

Physical environment consists of frequent exposure to an outdoor environment. May be required to perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying materials, or equipment. Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and infectious diseases. Potential exposure to dangerous situations involving hostile citizens.

Should be able to drag 200 pounds a minimum of twenty-five feet.

Scheduling is shift work, weekends and holidays.
Associate's degree in criminal justice and/or one year law enforcement experience.
