Position Summary
The Benching & Rigging Supervisor leads daily operations of the benching & rigging department, overseeing new & existing foundry tooling, fabrication, repair, and maintenance of foundry patterns, tooling, and related equipment. This role ensures high-quality output, safe work practices, efficient workflows, and on-time delivery while supervising skilled trades personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Production
- Plan, schedule, and prioritize pattern shop work to meet scheduled shop order deliveries to customers
- Supervise patternmakers, shop technicians, and apprentices
- Review drawings and customers’ specifications to determine tooling requirements
- Oversee construction, modification and repair of plastic, and metal patterns and core boxes
- Coordinate with engineering, and project manager to ensure tooling specifications are met
- Monitor workflow and capacity; adjust staffing and schedules as needed
Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure foundry tooling meets dimensional and quality standards
- Inspect complete work and resolve technical or workmanship issues
- Implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste
- Maintain documentation for final check-off sheets for each project
- Coordinate with maintenance to ensure all department machinery is maintained. Issue repair orders when needed
- Support tooling, equipment and maintenance for this department.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce shop safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements
- Always conduct safety awareness and safety standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment
Leadership & Administration
- Train, mentor, and evaluate those in your department.
- Implement weekly department meetings to review existing and future customer tooling jobs.
- Assist with hiring and workforce planning.
- Manage timekeeping, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required; technical degree preferred
- 5–10 years of patternmaking or tooling experience
- 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred
- Foundry tooling experience strongly preferred
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in patternmaking methods and materials preferred
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and CAD models preferred
- Familiarity with CNC machining and conversational programming would be a benefit for this department
- Knowledge of measurement tools and quality inspection methods
- Understanding of foundry processes and tooling requirements

Work Environment
- Manufacturing/shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery
