Pirc-Tobin Construction is a privately owned heavy/highway construction company established in 2005. Over the years, we have continued to grow, completing work in communities across Eastern Iowa and expanding into the Des Moines area. Our office is located in Alburnett, Iowa, just fifteen minutes north of Cedar Rapids.

General Job Duties
- Maintain a basic knowledge of the employee handbook, as well as the mission, vision, and values of Pirc-Tobin Construction, and conduct yourself in a manner that supports the company’s values.
- Use working time effectively, report to work on time, monitor voicemail and email as appropriate, and meet deadlines.
- Escalate issues to management as needed.
- Participate in training related to job duties and safety procedures, along with any additional training assigned by management.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
Administrative Responsibilities
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls, screening when necessary.
- Welcome and assist visitors, clients, and vendors.
- Maintain filing systems as assigned.
- Retrieve information from records, emails, meeting minutes, and related documents, and prepare written summaries as needed.
- Respond to and resolve administrative questions and requests.
- Order trucking permits.
- Maintain office supply inventory and coordinate maintenance of office equipment.
- Maintain systems for recording expenses and tracking company credit card usage.
Payroll & Accounting Support
- Assist with accounts payable and job cost entries.
- Maintain Certificates of Insurance (COIs) and keep Foundation software records current.
- Process paperwork related to employee job classification changes, wage increases, and other employment-related updates.
- Process weekly payroll, payroll taxes, 401(k) contributions, and miscellaneous deductions.
- Verify and process Certified Payroll reports.
- Process quarterly payroll forms and payments.
- Verify year-end payroll data and process and file W-2s electronically.
- Maintain good attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- One to two years of related administrative, accounting, or payroll experience very strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Motivated, team-oriented individual with a positive attitude.
- Ability to learn quickly, listen well, and follow directions.
- Strong professional and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education & Training Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree in accounting preferred, or equivalent accounting-related experience.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, or similar software.
- Experience with payroll or construction accounting software preferred; Foundation experience is a plus.
Language Requirements
The primary language of Pirc-Tobin Construction is English. Excellent communication skills include the ability to:
- Actively listen for understanding.
- Ask clarifying questions when needed.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in both verbal and written form.
Reasoning Requirements
This position requires professional-level reasoning skills to process detailed information, prioritize deadlines, and support accurate payroll and administrative functions.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 10 to 25 pounds regularly.
- Primarily indoor office environment with occasional outdoor exposure.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for office and computer-related tasks.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
Employment Status & Schedule
This is a full-time position, generally scheduled for approximately 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hours may increase over time based on workload and business needs.
