Payroll, Benefits & HRIS Specialist

Position Summary

The Payroll, Benefits & HRIS Specialist is responsible for administering end-to-end payroll and employee benefits programs ensuring accuracy, compliance and a high-quality employee experience across Red Cat Holdings entities. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, effective benefits administration, system integrity, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and continuous improvement of HR and payroll processes.

This position plays a critical role in delivering a high-quality employee experience through responsive service, strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and operational excellence.
This is primarily an in-person position based at the Teal location in South Salt Lake, with some flexibility for occasional remote work as business needs and schedules allow.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Process multi-state payroll accurately and on time in Paycom.
  • Maintain payroll data including new hires, terminations, compensation changes, deductions, garnishments, tax withholdings, direct deposits, and paid time off balances.
  • Audit payroll data and review payroll registers, exception reports, and related records to ensure accuracy prior to final submission.
  • Ensure proper handling of bonuses, commissions, retroactive pay, shift differentials, expense reimbursements, and other special earnings or deductions.
  • Coordinate payroll close activities and maintain payroll records in accordance with company policy and legal requirements.
  • Respond to employee and manager payroll questions in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support payroll tax reporting, year-end activities, and coordination of W-2 processing.
  • Partner with Finance to support payroll reconciliations, general ledger alignment, and reporting needs.

Benefits Administration

  • Administer employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA/HSA, retirement, leave-related benefits, and other voluntary benefits.
  • Manage benefits enrollments, life event changes, terminations, beneficiary updates, and eligibility tracking.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits questions and issue resolution.
  • Coordinate open enrollment activities, employee communications, system configuration support, and carrier file accuracy.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and coordinate with carriers, brokers, and payroll to ensure accurate deductions and enrollments.
  • Monitor benefit eligibility and compliance requirements, including ACA-related tracking and reporting support as applicable.
  • Assist with leave administration coordination as it relates to benefits and payroll impacts.

Paycom HRIS Administration

  • Serve as the primary Paycom resource and internal point of contact.
  • Lead troubleshooting and resolution of Paycom issues related to payroll, benefits, employee data.
  • Create and maintain standard and ad hoc reports, dashboards, audits, and metrics from Paycom.
  • Partner with Paycom representatives to address escalations, system enhancements, and best practices.

Compliance, Audit & Process Improvement

  • Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll and benefits laws and regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of employee payroll, benefits, and personal data.
  • Support internal audits and prepare payroll, benefits, and system documentation as needed.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase accuracy, compliance, efficiency, and service levels.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in payroll and benefits administration.
  • Hands-on experience processing payroll in Paycom preferred.
  • Experience administering employee benefits programs and resolving benefits-related issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of payroll laws, wage and hour requirements, deductions, garnishments, and benefits administration practices.
  • Experience serving as an HRIS, payroll system, or Paycom superuser, power user, or primary internal contact.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and follow-through.
  • Strong Excel and reporting skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Strong customer service, problem-solving, and communication skills

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • CPP, FPC, CEBS, or related certification
  • Experience in multi-state payroll administration
  • Experience with ACA administration, benefits reconciliations, and open enrollment management
  • Experience supporting HR, payroll, and benefits process improvement initiatives
  • Experience training managers and employees on HRIS/self-service tools

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment, including prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer
  • Frequent use of a computer, keyboard, and telephone
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Ability to occasionally stand, walk, and move within the office
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds, if needed (e.g., files, office materials)
  • Ability to maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods
