Job Overview
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Patient Care Assistants (PCA) to provide high-quality, patient-centered care across various healthcare settings. The ideal candidate will support clinical teams by assisting with daily patient needs, ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity. Experience in specialized areas such as critical care, geriatrics, pediatrics, or behavioral health is highly valued. This role offers an opportunity to work in dynamic environments including hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, and home care settings. The PCA will play a vital role in delivering comprehensive patient support while adhering to healthcare regulations and maintaining confidentiality.
Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility assistance using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary
- Monitor and record vital signs accurately and report changes to medical staff
- Support medication administration under supervision or according to facility protocols
- Maintain proper infection control practices including aseptic techniques and hand hygiene
- Document patient information accurately in EMR/EHR systems and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, including those with dementia or memory care needs
- Assist with medical procedures such as catheter care, phlebotomy, and specimen collection
- Help coordinate patient care activities within multidisciplinary teams in inpatient, outpatient, or community settings
- Support discharge planning and patient education related to post-acute or home care needs
- Follow safety protocols for infectious disease control and trauma response in Level I/II trauma centers or emergency environments
Skills
- Proven experience in specialized healthcare areas such as ICU, emergency medicine, hospice, or behavioral health preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and vital signs monitoring
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation
- Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental disorders
- Strong communication skills for working with patients, families, and healthcare teams
- Competency in basic life support (BLS) and infection prevention techniques
- Experience with medical-surgical procedures and post-acute care practices is desirable
- Ability to handle sensitive information following HIPAA guidelines and maintain confidentiality at all times
- Compassionate caregiving attitude with a focus on patient safety and comfort
