- Diagnosis & Troubleshooting: Identify faults in populated PCBs using schematics, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and automated test equipment (ATE).
- Component Rework: Remove and replace defective surface-mount (SMT) and through-hole (THT) components, including BGAs, QFPs, and 0201-sized resistors.
- Board Restoration: Repair damaged circuit traces, pads, and solder masks. Perform "blue wire" modifications or engineering changes (ECOs) as required.
- Quality Testing: Conduct functional and visual inspections after repair to ensure boards meet IPC workmanship standards and performance requirements.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed logs of failure modes, repair actions taken, and components used for traceability and quality analysis.
- Equipment Maintenance: Calibrate and maintain soldering stations, hot air rework tools, and diagnostic machinery.
- ESD Compliance: Strictly follow Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) prevention protocols to protect sensitive electronic components.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Technical Soldering: Mastery of manual soldering and desoldering techniques, specifically for fine-pitch components under a microscope.
- Schematic Literacy: Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
- Analytical Thinking: Strong logical reasoning to isolate root causes of circuit failures (e.g., short circuits, open loops, or faulty ICs).
- Precision: Exceptional hand-eye coordination and steady hands for working with miniature components.
- Software Proficiency: Basic computer skills for logging data into ERP/MRP systems and using proprietary diagnostic software.
