Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pediatric Dental Assistant to join our dynamic dental team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong passion for pediatric dentistry and demonstrate exceptional chairside assisting skills. In this role, you will support dentists in providing high-quality dental care to young patients, ensuring a comfortable and positive experience. Duties
- Assist pediatric dentists during various dental procedures, including examinations, restorations, and preventive treatments.
- Prepare treatment rooms with appropriate instruments and materials, ensuring all equipment is sterilized and ready for use.
- Take and develop dental X-rays while adhering to proper radiation safety protocols.
- Record accurate medical and dental histories, vital signs, and treatment notes within electronic medical record (EMR) systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Provide patient education on oral hygiene practices tailored to pediatric needs, including the use of dental terminology that is understandable for children.
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures.
- Assist with medical imaging procedures using advanced tools like 3D scanners when necessary for comprehensive diagnosis.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with the dental team using four-handed dentistry techniques to improve efficiency and patient comfort.
- Ensure the safety of young patients by monitoring vital signs during treatments and recognizing signs of distress or medical emergencies.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in a dental clinic environment, preferably with pediatric patients.
- Proficiency in dental assisting procedures, including chairside assisting, X-ray taking, and infection control practices.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or Epic for managing medical records and documentation.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy relevant to pediatrics, and medical terminology related to general dentistry procedures like prosthodontics or endodontics.
- Ability to perform medical imaging accurately using 3D scanners or other advanced diagnostic tools.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality at all times.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with children, parents, and team members in a professional manner.
