Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist during pediatric dental procedures, including exams, cleanings, restorations, and other treatments using four-handed dentistry techniques
• Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with infection control protocols
• Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging systems such as digital X-ray machines and 3D scanners, ensuring patient safety and comfort
• Manage patient flow by greeting families, updating medical histories, taking vital signs, and explaining procedures in a friendly manner suitable for children
• Maintain accurate medical documentation and dental records within electronic health record (EHR) system like Eaglesoft while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy
• Support infection control practices by following aseptic techniques and maintaining a clean clinical environment
• Assist with medical coding and documentation related to pediatric dentistry procedures, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards

Skills

• Proficiency in dental assisting with experience in pediatric dentistry preferred
• Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy relevant to pediatrics, and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EMR system such as Eaglesoft for managing medical records and documentation
• Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners safely and effectively
• Excellent communication skills to interact comfortably with children and their families while explaining procedures clearly
• Knowledge of infection control standards, aseptic technique, and sterilization procedures within a dental clinic setting
• Experience with chairside assisting techniques in general dentistry environments is advantageous
• Understanding of pediatric-specific considerations such as behavioral management strategies and vital signs assessment
