Pediatric Dental Assistant

About the Role:

The Pediatric Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting pediatric dentists by ensuring a safe, comfortable, and efficient environment for young patients during dental procedures. This position involves preparing treatment rooms, assisting during dental treatments, and managing patient records with a focus on pediatric care. The role requires a compassionate approach to help alleviate children's anxiety and foster positive dental experiences. The Pediatric Dental Assistant also educates patients and their guardians on oral hygiene practices tailored to children’s needs. Ultimately, this position contributes significantly to the overall success of the dental practice by enhancing patient care and operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited dental assistant training program.
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant (CDA) or equivalent, as required by state regulations.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to work effectively with children in a healthcare setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience specifically in pediatric dental assisting.
  • Knowledge of pediatric dental terminology and procedures.
  • Familiarity with dental practice management software.
  • Additional certifications such as Radiology Certification, Coronal Polishing and Sealant Placement, EFDA.
  • Strong communication skills tailored to interacting with children and their families.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment before and after procedures to maintain a hygienic environment.
  • Assist the pediatric dentist during examinations and treatments by handing instruments, suctioning, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Manage patient records, including updating medical histories and accurately documenting treatment details.
  • Educate young patients and their caregivers on proper oral hygiene techniques and post-treatment care instructions.
  • Maintain a child-friendly environment by engaging with patients gently and reassuringly to reduce anxiety.
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with other staff to ensure smooth office operations.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of dental supplies, ordering materials as needed to avoid shortages.
