Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough physical examinations and assessments of pediatric patients, including vital signs, developmental milestones, and health histories.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans for acute and chronic conditions, utilizing evidence-based practices.
- Administer vaccinations, medications, and injections with precision, including IV infusions and sterile procedures such as suturing when necessary.
- Manage urgent care cases, triage patients effectively, and coordinate referrals for specialized services like gastroenterology or infectious disease care.
- Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or eClinicalWorks to document patient encounters accurately and efficiently.
- Educate families on health maintenance, disease prevention, nutrition, behavioral health, and developmental concerns tailored to children’s needs.
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals in a teaching hospital environment to ensure comprehensive patient care.
Skills
- Proven experience working with children across various settings such as clinics, hospitals, or assisted living facilities.
- Strong proficiency in EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for medical documentation and coding (CPT, ICD-10).
- Knowledge of pediatric physiology, anatomy, pharmacology (including psychopharmacology), and diagnostic evaluation techniques.
- Skilled in performing procedures such as venipuncture, catheterization, spinal taps, sonography, tube feeding management, and sterile processing techniques.
- Experience in managing acute pain cases, trauma (Level I/II trauma center experience), ICU or PICU settings is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform patient assessments quickly in triage situations while maintaining compassionate communication with families.
- Familiarity with telehealth platforms for remote consultations; experience with hospital medicine or inpatient/outpatient care is a plus.
- Excellent understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality; capable of working within multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic care.
