General Purpose of Position

The Direct Care Staff shall work under the supervision of the RN or LVN and are responsible for providing direct care to the children in the PPEC / PDHC setting. All care is provided within the scope of practice for DCS. For staffing purposes, Direct Care Staff include Certified Nursing Assistants, Nursing Assistants, EMT’s, Patient Care Technicians and individuals with experience in caring for children with medical needs.

Education, Skills and Experience Requirements

• One year experience in care of infants and toddlers, or related experience such as medical technician training or emergency medical technician.
• Annual Pediatric CPR certification

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Employees must always be able to view and read labels, evaluate patient requirements, use monitors, and recognize supplies and equipment.
• Regular encounters with patients, visitors, and caregivers that call for the employee to vocally communicate as well as promptly and correctly hear and comprehend spoken information, alarms, requests, and problems, especially in emergency circumstances.
• Frequent lifting/bending/stooping and moving/hoisting of patients and supplies using their complete range of motion.
• Must be able to walk and help carry patients, get supplies, and distribute equipment. Stretchers and other portable equipment, including heavy objects.
• Frequent sitting and standing.
• Must be able to physically respond and react in an emergency and aid as needed.
