J. C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center is a federally qualified community health center which exists to provide patient-centered primary health care services to the medically underserved residents of the greater Savannah-Chatham County, Georgia community. The Health Center makes comprehensive primary care, integrated behavioral health care, oral health care, and inpatient respite care services available to all persons, including the homeless and low-income uninsured and underinsured, regardless of ability to pay. The J.C. Lewis Primary Health Care Center is seeking to add a Pediatrician to our interdisciplinary clinical team. The Pediatrician supports the team by providing medical services, within the scope of practice, at the request of the Health Care Provider.

Position Summary:

The Pediatrician functions as an active member of the interdisciplinary clinical team. The Pediatrician provides comprehensive medical services including, but not limited to: examining patients, diagnosing conditions and providing treatments for patients.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • To render primary medical care to children in a pediatric health care setting
  • Plans and carries out medical care program for children from birth through adolescence to aid in mental and physical growth and development.
  • Examines patients to determine presence of disease and to establish preventive health practices.
  • Participate in appropriate health screening services
  • Determines nature and extent of disease or injury, prescribes and administers medications and immunizations, makes appropriate referrals for further diagnosis and treatment, orders appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests and performs a variety of medical duties.
  • Assess children's growth and development, including cognitive skills.
  • Performs focused and complete physicals as health needs and guardian requests indicate.
  • Directs patient care by performing a patient assessment, review of systems and physical examination. Utilizes the data obtained to develop a plan of care to include patient and family education, proper referrals, discharge planning and evaluating the effectiveness of care. This is accomplished in conjunction with the health care team and is supported by the appropriate documentation for compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with other health care providers as the patient health needs dictate, consults and reviews cases with physicians and other health care providers; Refers patients to other physicians/specialist for continued care as the patients’ needs indicate.
  • Reviews patient records and completes peer review and other chart reviews as requested.
  • Administer vaccinations and other injections.
  • Advise parents about health and diet issues impacting their children.
  • Utilizes appropriate E and M coding guidelines for billing. Participates in the JCLPHCC compliance program. Collaborates with the Practice Manager to follow up on denials in an effort to achieve appropriate reimbursement for services provided.
  • Assists with teaching and precepting of medical students.
  • Provide oversight to PA’s and/or APRNs
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

· Medical Degree from accredited medical institution

· Specialty in Pediatrics

· Completed Residency and 1-2 years of experience in a Pediatric practice

· Utilizes appropriate E and M coding guidelines for billing. Participates in the SGHS compliance program. Collaborates with the Practice Manager to follow up on denials in an effort to achieve appropriate reimbursement for services provided.

· Demonstrates effective assessment skills, critical thinking skills, problem solving ability and ability to write independently. Diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses seen in prompt medical facility setting; performance of minor surgical procedures such as suturing of wounds and lacerations; ACLS certification required and PALS certification preferred.

· Ability to establish and maintain relationships with the medical community

· Ability to establish and maintain professional relationship with parents and patients

· Excellent oral and written communication skills

· Non-profit or public health experience preferred
