Position Summary:
The Swinomish Medical Clinic serves as the primary medical home for members of the Swinomish Indian Tribal Community, delivering comprehensive care across the spectrum of preventive, acute, and chronic health needs for eligible American Indian and Alaskan Native patients. This position is an integral part of a multidisciplinary primary care team that includes professionals in mental health, psychiatry, social work, clinical pharmacy, nutrition, complementary medicine, and access to a tribally run addiction medicine program. The pediatrician will serve as the clinic’s expert in childhood health and development and provide primary care services to pediatric patients in a collaborative, culturally responsive environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- As a physician leader and advocate for childhood health at the clinic, the pediatrician will lead clinical program development, and act as a resource to support healthy childhood development in the community.
- Provide primary health care services to all eligible clinic users under the age of 18 at Swinomish Indian Health Clinic. Including but not limited to evaluation, treatment, filling out medical forms, arranging for referrals to outside providers when appropriate, providing for medicine refills, discussing results in person or over the phone
- Provide acute and chronic care for patients by taking comprehensive histories, performing physical exams, developing diagnoses, and prescribing medications.
- Responsible to order diagnostic imaging and laboratory studies and refer patients to specialty providers when indicated.
- Document all care within the electronic health record in accordance with established guidelines and billing practices.
- Maintains complete and thorough medical records including updating problem lists and medical histories.
- Communicate healthcare plan with patients and families
- Develop, implement, coordinate and evaluate clinical programs as requested
- Adequately document all patient encounters, phone calls and discussions in patient chart.
- Participate in QA and peer review program as applicable
- Attend ongoing training courses to advance knowledge
- Act in a professional manner at all times and treat patients with compassion and consideration
- Comply with local, state and federal laws and regulations to provide safe healthcare services
- Consult and give consultation to other providers of healthcare
- Any other tasks request by the supervisor
- Participate in after-hours home call program as part of the provider call group as applicable
- Work effectively with other department directors and staff to achieve tribal goals
- Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such Duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have and maintain active unrestricted Washington State and DEA licenses.
- Board eligible or board certified in Pediatrics
- MD or DO degree from an Accredited American Medical School
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a primary care pediatrician
- Interest working with Native American/Alaskan native population.
- Ability to work with a wide variety of people and personalities.
- Maintain preferred provider status with Medicare, DSHS, L&I and other third-party payors as needed to ensure payment for services provided at the clinic.
- Have and maintain BLS/CPR certificate
- Maintain annual CME requirements

Pay: $207,600.00 - $240,700.00 per year
