Position Summary
Under the direction of the Chief Health Officer, the physician will provide primary care commensurate with training to patients. The care will be appropriate for an out-patient, primary care community health center with a multicultural, multilingual, and an economically diverse patient population, as well as a rural patient population.
HPC employs a team-based approach to care delivery for all patients. Clinical staff work with their team to effectively use huddles at the start of each clinic day, utilize standing orders when applicable, use evidence-based approaches to patient-care such as teaching self-management to patients, emphasize seamless care coordination for all patients, strive to understand the vulnerable populations served, and adjust services to fit patient needs. Upon hire, all staff receives orientation regarding benefits of the HPC team-based approach to population health.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Examine, diagnose, and treat patients of all ages, with a focus on physician specialty.
- Act as primary consultant on specialty cases referred by other staff providers.
- Provide in-service training for staff in selected topics in specialty area, as deemed necessary by the Chief Health Officer.
- Complete medical charts and encounter forms following each visit, in compliance with all HPC policies and procedures.
- Assist in internal quality control audits.
- Provide quality medical care according to standards established by the Chief Health Officer.
- Provide supervision (as assigned) of Advanced Practice Providers.
- Supervise (as assigned) medical assistants, nurses, and lab personnel.
- Available to participate in providing continuity of care, and discussions with specialists or hospitals as requested.
- Attend internal and external meetings/workshops/conferences and participate on task forces/committees, as deemed necessary by the Chief Health Officer and/or CEO.
- Perform minor procedures within scope of training.
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- Staff membership and privileges granted by the HPC Board of Directors (approval of credentialing and privileging applications).
- Ability to relate well with patients and other health care personnel.
- Willingness to educate patients and the community in health maintenance and the role of the health care team.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Commitment to expanding access to care for the underserved.
- Ability to provide pediatric services.
- Ability to care for the medical needs of a rural population.
Education and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited medical school and ACGME accredited residency program.
- Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Kansas.
- Kansas DEA registration required
- Current CPR (BLS) certifications.
- Board certification required in residency trained specialty.
- Approval of Kansas Charitable Care Provider Application.
- Knowledge of public health principles and practices preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to maintain appropriate clinical privileges required.
- Previous experience providing care at a community healthcare center or similar environment preferred.
Typical Physical Demands:
- Prolonged sitting or standing may be required.
- Ability to lift to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 35 pounds.
- Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with normal medical office will be performed on a repetitive basis.
- The ability to distinguish letters and symbols, as well as the ability to utilize office equipment (telephones, computer terminals, and copiers) is required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and non-traditional conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.
- Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, radiation, and other conditions common to a clinical environment may routinely be encountered.
- Ability to handle a busy schedule. Some non-traditional hours may be required (i.e., Saturday rotation).
Pay: From $158,000.00 per year
