JOB TITLE: Criminal Justice Peer-Recovery Specialist

This is a full time equivalent 32 hour position that may expand to 40 hours in future

8:30-4:30 4 days per week

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Provide recovery support services with participants in Carroll and Coos County NH with the SOS Peer-Strength criminal justice recovery programs and services.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working and supporting participants within correctional facilities, treatment courts, and probation and parole settings, and have the ability to be approved in Federal, State and County jails and prison settings. in Northern NH.
  • Take part in outreach in Carroll and Coos County to community stakeholders to increase engagement from referral sources and build relationships with treatment courts, public defenders, probation and parole officers, law enforcement, community corrections, and state and county correctional facilities.
  • Succesful candidate will have a broad understanding of multiple pathways of recovery and support various approaches to recovery as well as harm reduction strategies.
  • Engage compassionately and enthusiastically with participants who are involved in our Peer-Strength program and in our recovery centers.
  • Provide participants with referrals and meaningful connections to resources that improve their wellness and recovery capital.
  • Maintain a safe and trauma informed space within our recovery centers that is orderly and centers the experiences of our community, participants, and volunteers.
  • This position will be a hybrid remote position with a combination of working in our Carroll County office as well as travel within Carroll and Coos County 1-2 days a week, including some travel to our Strafford County recovery center in Dover.
  • Will require a satisfactory driving record, reliable vehicle and meet insurance requirements for remote work.
  • Input all engagements with participants accurately and accordingly in Recovery Link and in real time.
  • Obtain Participant Outcomes and Recovery Capital Assessments at every participant engagement (or when possible).
  • Report in a timely and punctual manner to appropriately support our participants and be prepared and available both physically and emotionally to serve participants at the start of all scheduled shifts.
  • Engage compassionately, enthusiastically and with empathy with the community, volunteers, and all participants in and outside our recovery centers, at events, during training, and with community stakeholders.
  • Provide a supportive environment that welcomes and encourages a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice for those marginalized, especially the LGBTQIA+ community and Black, Indigenous, and people of color.
  • Check email daily, maintain communication on internal staff communications platforms (i.e., Slack).
  • Connect and encourage participants to resources while honoring their self-directed goals.
  • Support participants with their wellness and recovery.
  • Host and/or moderate chat in our digital meetings and document the meetings and attendance accordingly.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Excellently demonstrated listening skills and a high level of social and emotional intelligence.

Demonstrated ability to work with participants compassionately and empathically.

A State of NH, Certified Recovery Support Worker (CRSW) credential is preferred and will be required within 6 months of hiring.

Formal training and proficiency in Motivational Interviewing skills will need to be demonstrated within 12 months of hiring.

A basic understanding of harm reduction principles and the ability to support them.

Working knowledge of a variety of addiction recovery modalities and ability to articulate, support and respect the delivery of multiple pathways of recovery in a community-based setting. Flexibility is required as weekly scheduling will vary and will regularly include Saturdays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma/NH High School Equivalency (HiSET) required.

Experience in peer-based recovery support services, harm-reduction preferred and/or previous experience within the substance use disorder treatment field.

Certificate of completion for The Art & Science of Peer Assisted Recovery® (PAR) or equivalent, as well as completion of Ethical Considerations for Peer-Assisted Recovery or equivalent is preferred and required within 90 days of hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
