People Operations Manager

Position Summary

Lead day-to-day people operations at Faulconer, supporting the employee experience, workforce development programs, and providing a customer-service level of support to all employees. Partner with multiple departments to deliver integrated employee success initiatives such as Learning & Development, Engagement & Retention, Professional Development, Onboarding & Orientation, and more. This role is designed for a people operations professional ready to grow into broader responsibility as Faulconer continues to scale. A people-first mindset, strong customer service orientation, and the ability to connect comfortably and authentically with employees at every level — from field crews to executives — are essential to success in this role. Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update people-related policies, generating alignment between stakeholder departments.
  • Coordinate the Training & Development roadmap to deliver consistent learning experiences for field, shop, and office employees through current and future LMS platforms.
  • Lead culture, recognition, and retention programs that protect Faulconer's family-owned culture.
  • Own the apprenticeship program, including program coordination, DOL partnerships, and ongoing compliance obligations.
  • Lead employee relations support, including performance management coaching, investigations, disciplinary guidance, terminations, and complex/confidential employee matters.
  • Own the stay/exit interview process — framework, coordination, data collection, and insights — and feed findings to leadership for workforce planning.
  • Design and continuously improve the orientation program and co-own the annual benefit education and enrollment tour.
  • Work cross-functionally and throughout geographical areas to organize employee events such as Spring Kickoff, Leadership Retreats, Business Plans, and more.
  • Lead internal communications for people-related initiatives to ensure employees across all offices and job sites receive timely, clear messaging.
  • Serve as the operational owner for Workday People Operations administration post go-live.
  • Manage employee response support efforts in partnership with local and corporate teams.

Position Expectations

  • Travel: Occasional travel to regional offices and active job sites within Faulconer's mid-Atlantic footprint.
  • Management: Direct supervision of the Employee Engagement Specialist and the Equipment Training Manager; indirect oversight of field and safety training staff.
  • Physical: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer; occasional visits to active construction sites requiring navigation of uneven terrain and varying weather conditions; ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Work Environment: This job operates primarily in a professional office environment with periodic exposure to active construction site conditions during field visits, training deliveries, and orientations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • 3-5 years of human resources or people operations experience, with exposure to training, onboarding, employee engagement, or related functional areas.
  • Demonstrated people-first mindset with a strong customer service orientation; comfortable engaging and communicating with employees at all levels of the organization, from field and shop personnel to executive leadership.
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred; construction, trades, or manufacturing industry experience a plus.
  • Experience coordinating training programs, learning management systems, or workforce development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with HRIS platforms and interest in learning Workday HCM; prior Workday experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of employment law, HR compliance practices, and people-related policy development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with comfort leading communications to a workforce-wide audience.
  • Ability to build relationships across field, shop, and office environments; cultural alignment with a family-owned, people-first organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; willingness and ability to learn new technology.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and cross-functional stakeholders.

Work Authorization / Security Clearance

  • Employee must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Drug screens are required after an offer is accepted, and continued employment is based on initial drug screen and any future/random drug screens administered.
  • A background check, confidentiality agreement, and driving record may be required.
  • Further clearance may be required by clients (i.e., government or military site access).
