Perception Engineer – Autonomous Construction Vehicles
We are seeking a passionate Perception Engineer with 2-10 years of experience to join our mission-driven team building autonomous heavy construction vehicles. This role is perfect for someone excited to work at the intersection of robotics, hardware, and real-world challenges, and eager to see their code control 20 tons of steel.
Responsibilities
· Architect and develop robust 3D perception pipelines for teleoperated and semi-autonomous heavy machinery
· Design baseline perception algorithms and progressively enhance them with advanced deep-learning models
· Build real-time object detection, classification, and tracking systems to improve operator situational awareness
· Calibrate and fuse multi-modal sensor data (LiDAR, cameras, radar, GNSS/IMU), ensuring spatial and temporal consistency under dynamic conditions
· Optimize perception algorithms for real-time execution on embedded compute platforms (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson Orin), with a focus on low latency, stability, and handling of edge cases
Qualifications
· 2 to 10 years of perception engineering experience working with autonomous vehicles, preferably in industrial settings such as construction, mining, or agriculture
· Experience as a founding engineer or founder in an early-stage startup, side project, or similar 0 to 1 building environment
· Demonstrated elite skill or exceptional project track record in robotics, perception, or autonomy
· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent from a top-ranked program, with a strong academic record
· Hands-on experience with building and optimizing perception pipelines on embedded GPUs using ROS2 or similar frameworks
· Proficient coding skills in C++ and Python (or equivalent), with a focus on autonomy/perception for industrial platforms
Soft Skills
· Field-first mindset, comfortable spending approximately 50% of time on construction sites and adapting to challenging environments
· Deep passion for robotics, autonomy, and building impactful technology in real-world settings
This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative team driving the future of autonomous construction machinery.
