Periodontal Dental Assistant

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Periodontal Dental Assistant to support our periodontist in surgical and non-surgical procedures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment while delivering exceptional patient care.

We are a privately owned, boutique-style dental practice with 7 other locations

Our offices are fully digital, up-to-date, and have multiple operatories. All of our offices are fee for service, currently using Denticon, and are open Monday through Friday.

This position will be required to travel between locations to treat patients (in Pinellas county).

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Periodontal Dental Assistant to support our periodontist in surgical and non-surgical procedures. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced clinical environment while delivering exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities Chairside & Surgical Assisting

  • Assist during periodontal and implant procedures, including:
  • Scaling and root planing (SRP)
  • Periodontal surgery (flap procedures, grafting)
  • Implant placement and uncovering
  • Crown lengthening
  • Maintain clear visibility of the operative field through suctioning and retraction
  • Anticipate provider needs and ensure efficient procedure flow
  • Prepare and break down operatories before and after procedures

Sterilization & Infection Control

  • Follow OSHA and CDC infection control guidelines
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain sterilization logs
  • Ensure proper use of PPE and maintain a clean clinical environment

Patient Care & Education

  • Greet and prepare patients for treatment
  • Review medical history and take vitals (as required)
  • Provide pre- and post-operative instructions
  • Ensure patient comfort and address concerns throughout treatment

Radiography & Imaging

  • Take diagnostic radiographs (PAs, bitewings, FMX)
  • Assist with CBCT imaging (if applicable)

Clinical Documentation

  • Accurately chart procedures and clinical notes
  • Ensure documentation meets compliance and legal standards

Inventory & Equipment

  • Maintain adequate levels of clinical and surgical supplies
  • Assist with ordering and tracking specialty materials (implants, grafting materials)
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and report issues as needed

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with the clinical and front office team to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Communicate effectively regarding scheduling, case needs, and patient care

Qualifications

  • Dental Assistant certification (as required by state)
  • Radiology certification (required)
  • CPR/BLS certification (required)
  • Previous periodontal or oral surgery experience preferred
  • Knowledge of dental terminology and procedures
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Excellent communication and patient service skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with dental implant procedures
  • Familiarity with CBCT imaging
  • Experience with dental software (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Open Dental)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and use fine motor skills
  • Comfortable working in a clinical/surgical setting
