Personal Assistant & Companion — Dementia Care

$28–$35/hour | Full-time | Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm

New York, NY / Weston, CT (travel required)

About the role

A warm, experienced personal assistant is needed to provide dedicated one-on-one support to an elderly woman living with dementia. This is a private household position offering consistent, meaningful work with the same individual every day. You will be her trusted companion, advocate, and daily support — helping her live comfortably, safely, and with dignity.

Schedule & location

• Monday–Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm (40 hours/week)
• Primary locations: New York City, NY and Weston, CT
• Flexibility to travel between both locations as needed; transportation will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, compassionate companionship throughout the day
• Assist with activities of daily living (dressing, grooming, meals, light mobility)
• Accompany client to medical appointments, errands, and social outings
• Engage client in meaningful activities appropriate to her interests and cognitive level (reading aloud, music, gentle walks, games)
• Monitor and report any changes in mood, behavior, or health to family
• Coordinate with family members and, when applicable, medical staff
• Light household tasks related to the client's daily routine (meal prep, tidying her space)
• Safely manage transitions between NYC and Weston residences

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience working with individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's
• Genuine patience, warmth, and emotional steadiness
• Strong verbal communication skills; ability to de-escalate gently and redirect
• Valid driver's license preferred; comfort with travel between NY and CT
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
• References from prior dementia or elder care positions required
• Legal authorization to work in the United States
