Personal Banker

Position Summary

The Personal Banker serves as a trusted financial partner to customers by delivering exceptional service, building long-term relationships, and providing personalized banking solutions. In a community bank environment, this role emphasizes local engagement, customer education, and consultative selling while supporting branch operations and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing customers by understanding their financial needs and goals
  • Open and service consumer deposit accounts, including checking, savings, certificates of deposit, and IRAs
  • Identify opportunities to recommend appropriate banking products and services such as loans, credit cards, smart cards, digital banking, etc.
  • Conduct needs-based conversations and financial reviews to support customer financial well-being
  • Process routine transactions and provide account maintenance support accurately and efficiently
  • Assist customers with online and mobile banking tools, promoting digital adoption
  • Ensure compliance with all bank policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (BSA, AML, CIP, OFAC, etc.)
  • Participate in community events, relationship-building activities, and local outreach as needed
  • Collaborate with branch staff to achieve individual and team performance goals
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all customer interactions

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • 1–3 years of experience in retail banking, financial services, or customer-facing sales role preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust and rapport with customers
  • Basic knowledge of consumer banking products and services
  • Proficiency with banking systems, Microsoft Office, and digital tools
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a community bank or local financial institution
  • Prior account opening and/or consumer lending experience
  • Understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements
  • 1-3 years of retail experience is a plus
