Personal Care Aide

Overview
Join our compassionate team as a Personal Care Aide, where your dedication and caring nature will make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals requiring assistance with daily activities. In this vital role, you will provide personalized support to promote independence, safety, and well-being in various care settings such as assisted living facilities, nursing homes, group homes, and home care environments. Your efforts will help create a warm, respectful atmosphere where clients feel valued and supported every step of the way.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility support.
  • Monitor patients’ health by taking vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration; report any changes to healthcare professionals promptly.
  • Support medication administration following care plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Prepare nutritious meals tailored to individual dietary needs and assist with meal consumption when necessary.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks such as cleaning patient areas and ensuring sanitation standards are met.
  • Observe and document patient conditions, behaviors, and progress; communicate effectively with team members to coordinate care plans.
  • Utilize specialized equipment like Hoyer lifts or resident’s <PERSON> to safely transfer clients with mobility challenges or disabilities.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to foster a positive environment for residents or clients with dementia, Alzheimer’s, autism, or other developmental disabilities.
  • Support hospice or memory care needs by implementing specialized techniques for comfort and safety.
  • Follow all safety protocols including CPR and First Aid procedures; participate in ongoing training to stay current with best practices in patient care.

Skills

  • Proven experience in home health, assisted living, nursing home settings or group homes; familiarity with long-term care environments is highly valued.
  • Strong knowledge of patient observation techniques, vital signs monitoring, medication administration, and care plan implementation.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely using equipment like Hoyer lifts; physically capable of assisting residents with mobility needs.
  • Excellent communication skills for working effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
  • Compassionate demeanor with a genuine desire to improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities or age-related conditions.
  • Experience working with individuals who have dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disabilities; understanding of specialized memory care techniques is preferred.
  • Basic housekeeping skills including cleaning and maintaining a hygienic environment for residents’ safety.
  • Knowledge of CPR certification and first aid procedures; willingness to participate in ongoing training sessions.
