Slaughter & Lupton Law, PLLC, a Virginia and North Carolina personal injury law firm, is growing. We are looking to add highly motivated and proficient personal injury staff! We have an immediate need for a litigation paralegal to work on North Carolina personal injury cases and serve our personal injury clients from our Virginia Beach office location. This position is an additional position that we are adding to our existing litigation team of paralegals and legal assistants in our Virginia Beach office serving our Virginia and North Carolina clients. The person filling this position will be responsible for managing North Carolina cases in litigation in Superior Courts of Northeastern North Carolina. The person filling this position will assist our litigation attorneys in drafting and formatting pleadings and correspondence to the court and defense counsel, scheduling and calendaring of depositions, trials, court hearings, and deadlines, and communicating regularly with clients, other law firm staff, and court clerks and administrators. We are looking for someone proficient in multitasking and utilizing case management software, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, email, calls, and texts to communicate with clients, health care providers, and other legal professionals and keeping all documents important to the cases they are working on organized.

List of Job Requirements:

• Drafting and editing pleadings (complaints, discovery, motions, orders, notices) and other legal documents for cases litigated in North Carolina superior courts.
• Attending meetings as needed and updating attorneys on the status of active cases.
• Electronic filing documents with the courts.
• Communicate professionally and often with opposing counsel’s staff, court clerks, and clients in assisting the firm attorneys with handling and moving forward clients’ injury cases in litigation.
• Completing medical chronologies as needed.
• For attorney review, drafting settlement/disbursement statements and creating and modifying form letters.
• Maintain accurate and organized digital case files, ensuring all relevant information is readily accessible.
• Schedule and coordinate appointments and meetings.
• Assigning and following up with legal assistant specialists in obtaining clients’ medical records and bills.

Qualifications

• Experience as a personal injury paralegal.
• Preference for litigation experience with North Carolina superior court cases or Virginia circuit court cases.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat or similar PDF software.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail and superb organizational abilities.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines, shifting priorities as required.
• Experience with Needles or NEOS Case Management software is advantageous.
• VA and/or NC Notary certification is a plus.
