Under the direction of the CHF Programs Manager, is responsible for providing fitness instruction, orientations, assessments and personal training for fitness center members. Personal Trainers should be community role models for healthy decision-making and the pursuit of optimal health. It is expected that Personal Trainers serve as good citizens and ambassadors as demonstrated by knowledge and understanding of all programs and services offered at CHF and BCHD.

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDELINES
Any combination equivalent to experience, education, and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Requires Bachelor’s degree. Bachelor’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, health promotion or related field preferred. Will consider relevant work experience in lieu of formal education.
Certification: Current personal trainer, kinesiotherapist or its equivalent that is accredited by the NCCA, ISO 17024 or a similar approved accrediting body. Must maintain active certification in one of the certification bodies approved by CHF Management
EXPERIENCE:
One year of experience teaching fitness classes, conducting personal training sessions, conducting fitness assessments and working with special needs populations. Knowledge of conducting a fitness assessment and tailoring an individualized program accordingly.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of conducting a fitness assessment and tailoring an individualized program and group programming accordingly, Medical Fitness Association (MFA) standards; marketing and sales techniques a plus.
ABILITIES/SKILLS:
Ability to build community relationships and represent BCHD core values. Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people. Ability to inspire, encourage and motivate clients and help them stay on track with their fitness goals and demonstrate emotional intelligence and empathy.
Requires excellent organizational and effective communication skills: proficiency in Microsoft programs and ability to learn software programs used at facility (Spectrum/Daxko, reservations system, Zoom etc.)
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
First Aid, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) methods; appropriate safety precautions and procedures; simple record keeping procedures. Must be able to successfully pass background check, tuberculosis test and drug screen. Must have a valid Class C California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Employee Use of Automobiles Policy. Must possess proficiency in Microsoft programs and ability to learn other software programs used at facility (point of sale). Position may require evening and weekend shift coverage.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY ELEMENTS:
This position requires hearing, talking, and seeing. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee uses finger dexterity in order to operate computer hardware for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to continuously engage in a series of physical activities needed to effectively conduct fitness assessments and personal training. This includes, but is not limited to a combination of jumping, flexing, sitting, bending, stooping, stretching, grasping, reaching, lifting, tilting back, walking, and standing (100% of the time during training sessions or classes). Must be able to perform visual assessment of participants and their surrounding area 100% of time.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS:
The employee typically works indoors with controlled temperature conditions; the noise level is frequently quiet or moderately quiet, at or below 85 decibels. When monitoring health and fitness programs and activities, the noise level can exceed 85 decibels during group activities.
