Key Responsibilities:

The Personnel Security Specialist supports and executes the full lifecycle of personnel security and suitability determinations in accordance with federal laws, regulations, and adjudicative standards. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Process and manage background investigation requests for assigned applicants, employees, and contractors to determine suitability and eligibility for access to classified information and sensitive programs.
  • Ensure government security requirements are met by coordinating with internal stakeholders and external organizations to support new, existing, and evolving security programs.
  • Monitor, review, and analyze personnel security applications and investigative materials, prepare summary reports and recommendations for senior-level reviews.
  • Apply risk management principles to support organizational security goals and mission objectives.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of investigative data in accordance with established federal adjudicative guidelines, prepare written summaries and recommendations for final access determinations.
  • Enter, maintain, and update information in multiple security and personnel databases; research, track, gather, analyze, and compile data into comprehensive and accurate reports.
  • Prepare, gather, and review personnel security clearance forms and support documentation for applicants, employees, and contractors.
  • Draft and submit letters and formal requests to federal agencies and federal and district courts to obtain investigative, criminal history, and related records.
  • Conduct research, including coordination with other government agencies and private-sector entities via telephone, email, or formal correspondence.
  • Conduct subject interviews, document findings, and prepare investigative reports.
  • Review FBI criminal history records, issue Letters of Inquiry to resolve derogatory or questionable information, formulate findings, and recommend appropriate suitability or security determinations.
  • Participate in testing and evaluation of new security software applications and developmental investigative tracking systems.
  • Assist with the review and update of personnel security policies and procedures as requested.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ensure compliance with all applicable security regulations, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred -Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Prior experience in a security-related role, particularly supporting classified programs and Special Access Programs (SAPs).
  • Working knowledge of government security regulations and policies, including NISPOM and other applicable directives.
  • Experience initiating and managing non-criminal personnel security background investigations using NBIS.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, retrieve, review, analyze, and summarize investigative materials.
  • Knowledge of OPM Suitability and Security standards and regulations affecting federal employment.
  • Security certifications (e.g., SFPC, SAPPC) preferred but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally at all organizational levels.
  • Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and the ability to multi-task in a team environment.
  • An active TS/SCI clearance is required, with willingness to undergo screening for additional access.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $110,000.00 per year
