Job summaryA PGT Political Science and Geography is responsible for planning, developing, and delivering curriculum-aligned lessons for students in senior secondary classes. The ideal candidate possesses deep subject knowledge, effective communication skills, and a commitment to student success. Key responsibilitiesInstructional duties
- Curriculum planning: Prepare and execute comprehensive, well-structured lesson plans that align with the prescribed curriculum (e.g., CBSE, ISC).
- Subject delivery: Deliver engaging lessons in both Political Science and Geography, using a variety of teaching methods, including discussions, presentations, and digital tools.
- Encourage critical thinking: Stimulate student debate and analysis on current affairs, political theories, and geographical concepts.
- Assess student progress: Develop and administer assessments such as tests, assignments, and projects. Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to aid their academic development.
- Provide academic support: Offer individual guidance and mentorship to students, helping them address learning needs and prepare for board and competitive examinations.
Classroom and administrative duties
- Classroom management: Establish and maintain a positive and disciplined learning environment that promotes student participation.
- Maintain records: Keep accurate and detailed records of student attendance, grades, and academic performance.
- Extracurricular activities: Organize and participate in subject-related activities such as field trips, Model UN, or geography exhibitions.
- Parental communication: Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and behavior, typically during Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs).
Professional and collaborative duties
- Curriculum development: Collaborate with other faculty and the Head of Department to refine and update the social science curriculum.
- Stay updated: Continuously enhance teaching skills and stay current with the latest developments in Political Science, Geography, and educational technologies.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work with other staff members on school events, interdisciplinary projects, and to ensure student well-being.
Required qualifications and skills
- Educational qualification: A Master's degree in Political Science or Geography, along with a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree.
- Experience: Previous teaching experience at the senior secondary level is highly preferred.
- Subject matter expertise: In-depth knowledge of political theories, international relations, Indian polity, physical and human geography, and contemporary political and geographical issues.
- Communication skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English.
- Pedagogical skills: A strong understanding of modern teaching methodologies and the ability to engage students effectively.
- Technical skills: Proficiency in using educational technology, such as smartboards, learning management systems (LMS), and other digital teaching tools.
- Personal attributes: Adaptable, patient, and resourceful, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
