The Pharmacist in Charge will manage the operations of the hospital’s inpatient and retail pharmacy services and ensure compliance with all Ministry of Public Health requirements and internal policies. The role includes supervision of pharmacy staff, oversight of controlled drugs, coordination with clinical teams, and support for insurance-related processes linked to medication dispensing and approvals.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee all daily pharmacy operations in both inpatient and retail settings.
- Supervise pharmacists, technicians, and support staff and ensure proper allocation of duties.
- Ensure full compliance with MoPH pharmacy regulations, controlled drug standards, and hospital procedures.
- Review, verify, and dispense medications accurately with all required documentation.
- Maintain controlled drug registers, ensure secure storage, and keep the department audit-ready.
- Oversee inventory levels, procurement requests, stock rotation, and expiry monitoring for both inpatient and retail sections.
- Coordinate with physicians, nurses, and clinical teams for medication clarifications and urgent needs.
- Review and support insurance-related processes including prior authorizations, approvals, and insurer formulary requirements.
- Assist the insurance and revenue cycle team with clarifications for medication claims, rejections, and documentation needs.
- Ensure medication prices, codes, and lists remain updated and aligned with insurer guidelines and hospital billing systems.
- Manage medication incident reports and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Prepare pharmacy performance and consumption reports and support quality improvement and audit activities.
- Train new staff and support ongoing competency development across all pharmacy areas.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.
- Valid Qatar Pharmacist License.
- Minimum 5 years of pharmacy experience, preferably in a hospital with both inpatient and retail exposure.
- Knowledge of insurance requirements related to medication approvals and claims.
- Strong understanding of Qatar pharmacy regulations and controlled drug procedures.
- Proficiency in Arabic is a strong advantage.
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
