A pharmacy technician assistant, or pharmacy assistant, performs technical and administrative tasks to support a licensed pharmacist in a pharmacy setting, including:
- dispensing medications,
- managing inventory,
- processing prescriptions,
- processing insurance claims
- maintaining patient records, and providing customer service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Medication Dispensing: Assists the pharmacist in preparing medications by accurately measuring, counting, and packaging prescriptions.
- Inventory Management: Monitors stock levels, receives deliveries, restocks shelves, and removes expired medications.
- Insurance Processing Prescription Claims: Applies for approvals from Insurance schemes and processes prescriptions accordingly
- Prescription Processing: Receives and processes prescription orders, types and prints prescription labels, and ensures patient information is accurate.
- Customer Service: Greets customers, answers basic questions, and provides information on over-the-counter medications, referring more complex inquiries to the pharmacist.
- Administrative Support: Manages the cash register, handles billing and insurance paperwork, answers phones, and maintains electronic and physical records.
- Pharmacy Maintenance: Keeps the pharmacy workspace neat, clean, and organized, ensuring equipment is properly used and maintained.
- Regulatory Compliance: Adheres to pharmacy regulations, ethical standards, and patient confidentiality guidelines.
