GENERAL SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting Pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory, and maintaining patient records.
All responsibilities are performed in consideration of the ages of the individuals served. The tasks listed in this job description should be performed in a manner indicative of the employee’s ability to secure and interpret information pertinent to the customer needs, a knowledge of human development and an understanding of the range of treatment needed by these customers.
The Pharmacy Technician must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to the age of the patients served within the Allied Services – pediatric through geriatric. The Pharmacy Technician must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span; possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status; interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs; and to provide the care needed as described in the Pharmacy Services policies and procedures.

EDUCATION:
High School graduate or equivalent required.
Certification as a Pharmacy Technician preferred. Required to register with the PA State board of Pharmacy as a licensed Pharmacy Technician or Trainee.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
One (1) to two (2) years of pharmacy experience preferred.
SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a current certification as a Pharmacy Technician preferred.
Must maintain current Technician Certification if applicable.
Knowledge of pharmacy law, numerical ability, aseptic technique, accurate analysis and evaluation of orders required.
Must comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Must maintain confidentiality of patient, visitor and employee information.
Must be able to organize and prioritize assignments.
Must demonstrate independent thinking/sound judgment, clinical expertise, ability to teach/instruct, and possess manual and finger dexterity.
Ability to interact and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of management, staff and the public required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Medium Work: duties require exerting 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally (approx 10-33% of shift), and/or 10-25lbs. of force frequently (approx 33-66% of the time), and/or greater than negligible amount up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, and move objects.
Position involves bending, reaching, and stooping (occasionally in strained position) sitting, walking or standing, climbing a step ladder, reaching and working overhead throughout shift.
Must have eyesight acuity near and far, depth perception, color vision and field of vision.
Position involves sitting, walking or standing, kneeling, crouching, climbing a step ladder, reaching and working overhead.
Ability to transport self throughout facility is required.
ACCIDENT OR HEALTH HAZARDS:
Potential for sticks or cuts by needles and other sharp items.
Potential for musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting and carrying techniques are not used.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in will-lit office environment.
Potential for exposure to hazardous and toxic substances (including chemotherapy, cytotoxic drugs and cleaning solutions).
Occasional exposure to odors and dust.
