GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
To work directly with the Pharmacist to provide support services to the institution’s pharmacy program.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
QUALIFICATIONS

High school, plus specialized schooling and/or on the job education in a specific skill area; E.G. data processing, clerical/administrative, equipment operation, etc.

6 months related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Valid driver’s license

Current Arkansas Pharmacy Tech license
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Interpret prescription orders as well as perform computer entry of prescription orders for all members and staff. The pharmacy technician shall not make any judgment decisions that could affect patient care. The final verification of prescription information, entered into the computer shall be made by the supervising pharmacist prior to dispensing - who is then totally responsible for all aspects of the data and data entry.

Process prescriptions for payment from Pharmacy Benefit Managers including Medicare Part B, Medicare Part D, Medicaid and third party insurance companies.

Dispense prescriptions in bubble packing for members and vial packaging for staff and family.

Utilize financial cost-saving techniques including prior authorization, extension of benefits for Medicaid, and assisting pharmacist in contacting PBMs and physicians either by phone or fax for information and/or substitution of non-formulary medications for covered products.

Perform point-of-sale at pharmacy window at final time of dispensing to patients.

Check in drug orders at the time of receiving shipment including legend and controlled substances as well as processing returns and process for shipping to wholesaler.

A pharmacy technician may obtain prescriber authorization for prescription refills provided that nothing about the prescription is changed; a pharmacy technician shall not receive prescriber authorization for a new prescription by telephone or by other verbal communication.

Assist Pharmacy Director in maintaining perpetual inventory and completing biennial controlled substance inventory as stated in DEA regulations.

Assist Pharmacy Director in maintaining both invoice and prescription files.

The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.

Regular and punctual attendance is required.

Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
