JOB SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Technician – Sterile Compounding is responsible for the safe, accurate, and compliant preparation of sterile medications. This includes hazardous and non-hazardous compounds. This role operates within a highly regulated cleanroom environment and is critical to ensuring medication safety, regulatory adherence, and efficient pharmacy operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Strict compliance with USP<797> and <800> standards.
- Preparation of hazardous and non-hazardous sterile compounded drugs.
- Ensure accurate calculations, measurements, and labeling of compounded products.
- Participate in media fill testing and fingertip sampling.
- Identify and escalate compounding deviations, contamination risks, and/or process failures.
- Minimize waste through efficient compounding practices.
- Manage inventory of compounded supplies.
- Operate and maintain primary engineering controls (Laminar flow hood and biological safety cabinet).
- Collaborate with pharmacists, nursing, and clinical teams to ensure timely medication availability.
- Understanding of basic inpatient pharmacy operations and workflows.
- Fills stock requisitions and patient medication orders accurately.
- Performs AcuDose operations (refills, returns, reports, etc.) without discrepancies/errors.
- Accurately completes computer functions (Powerchart/PharmNet, print operation, charges/credits).
- Completes assigned tasks in a reasonable time frame. Work habits are structured to generate the optimum level of productivity within the department.
- Willingly provides assistance to other pharmacy areas when asked to do so by Director or pharmacist on duty. Accepts and completes other assignments delegated by Pharmacy Management.
- Gives appropriate information to caller or relays questions appropriate to a pharmacist. Provides feedback regarding problems and complaints and offers constructive suggestions.
- Possesses working knowledge of the automation system (Robot, Connect RX, Med Carousel, NarcStation).
- After competencies are completed successfully, compounds IV admixtures accurately using appropriate aseptic technique. Possess working knowledge of IV automation system.
- After competencies are completed successfully, assists pharmacy technician supervisor with training new staff
- Maintaining national pharmacy technician certification along with maintaining IV competencies with cytotoxic and medium risk compounding will qualify for hourly stipend payment.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Pharmacy Technician
- One-year formal education or training beyond High School.
- Must be a Registered Pharmacy Technician in the State of Florida.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred.
- 6 months sterile compounding experience preferred.
- ASHP sterile compounding certification preferred.
- Experience with compounding hazardous products preferred.
- Good math and communication skills required.
- Professional verbal communication skills.
- High attention to details and accuracy.
