Phelps County Outreach/Legal Advocate

General Duties & Responsibilities

Provide education and advocacy services (not legal advice) to survivors of domestic violence (DV) and sexual violence (SV) navigating the court system, including accompanying survivors to court and assisting with filing protection orders.

Support the development of a coordinated community response to DV/SV.- Build and maintain positive working relationships with courts, law enforcement, prosecutor's offices, and community organizations.

Provide medical advocacy for survivors of DV/SV at local emergency rooms through on-call coverage.- Connect survivors with information, referrals, and community resources.

Facilitate training and education on topics related to DV/SV.

Track and maintain required program statistics and documentation.

Participate in staff meetings and ongoing professional trainings.

Conduct community outreach to raise awareness of DV/SV and Russell House services, including attending events, tabling, sharing information, and engaging with local businesses and organizations.

Assist with shelter shift coverage as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Experience

Demonstrated sensitivity to and acceptance of individual needs and differences

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

Familiarity with the civil and criminal justice systems, including knowledge of the Adult Abuse Act and the ability to educate survivors seeking orders of protection.

Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality, and to represent Russell House with integrity in the community.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve shared goals.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to be outgoing, creative, resourceful, and self-motivated.

Job Type: Full-time
