Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Phlebotomist to join our OB/Gyn practice. The ideal candidate will have experience in drawing blood samples and a strong understanding of patient care, particularly in a women's health setting. This role is crucial for providing high-quality care to our patients and ensuring accurate and efficient specimen collection and processing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain the procedure, and provide a calming presence. Address any patient concerns or questions regarding the blood draw.
- Patient Indentification: Properly identify patients, using two patient identifiers.
- Blood Collection: Perform venipunctures with precision and care. Collect blood samples for various tests, including prenatal screenings, hormone levels, and other relevant tests.
- Specimen Handling: Properly label and handle blood samples to ensure accurate testing. Follow all procedures for specimen storage and transportation.
- Documentation: Accurately record patient information, including test requisitions and sample details. Maintain detailed and confidential records.
- Quality Control: Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment. Follow standard operating procedures for equipment use and safety.
- Collaboration: Work closely with OB/Gyn physicians, nurses, and other staff to ensure seamless patient care and efficient workflow.
- Patient Safety: Monitor and manage any adverse reactions or complications during or after the blood draw. Provide post-procedure care instructions to patients as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience as a phlebotomist, preferably in a medical office or hospital setting. Experience in an OB/Gyn environment is a plus.
- Skills: Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, excellent communication skills, and a strong attention to detail. Ability to handle sensitive patient information with confidentiality and professionalism.
- Certifications: Phlebotomy certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA) preferred but not required. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification may be required.
