Phlebotomist / Medical Assistant (Hybrid Role)

Preferred Family Medicine is a modern, concierge-style Direct Primary Care (DPC) practice focused on delivering exceptional, patient-centered care without the constraints of traditional insurance-based medicine. Our clinic integrates in-house services including laboratory testing, pharmacy, other services to provide a seamless, high-touch patient experience.

We are a growing, forward-thinking practice seeking a highly skilled Phlebotomist / Medical Assistant who thrives in a fast-paced, patient-focused environment and is excited to be part of an innovative healthcare model.

Position Overview

This hybrid role combines expert phlebotomy skills with clinical medical assisting responsibilities. The ideal candidate is confident in venipuncture, detail-oriented with specimen handling, and comfortable supporting physicians in both clinical and operational workflows.

This role is critical to maintaining efficiency, patient satisfaction, and high-quality diagnostic services within our in-office lab.

Key Responsibilities: Phlebotomy (Primary Focus)

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary blood draws across all age groups
  • Ensure proper specimen collection, labeling, processing, and handling
  • Maintain strict adherence to lab protocols (Labcorp, Quest, CPL, etc.)
  • Prepare and process specimens for pickup/shipment
  • Troubleshoot difficult draws with confidence and professionalism
  • Maintain inventory of lab supplies and ensure proper storage conditions

Medical Assisting Duties (not required, but helpful)

  • Room patients and obtain vital signs
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures
  • Administer injections and medications as ordered
  • Perform point-of-care testing (UA, rapid tests, etc.)
  • Support minor procedures and clinical workflows
  • Document accurately in the EHR

Operational & Patient Experience

  • Provide an exceptional, concierge-level patient experience
  • Educate patients on lab tests, pricing, and collection procedures
  • Assist with lab order coordination and patient communication
  • Maintain clean, organized clinical and lab spaces
  • Collaborate with front office and clinical team to optimize workflow

Qualifications Required

  • Phlebotomy certification or equivalent experience
  • Strong venipuncture skills (including difficult draws)
  • Experience in a clinical or outpatient setting
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization
  • Strong interpersonal and patient communication skills

Preferred

  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent)
  • Experience with in-office lab processing and multiple lab vendors
  • Familiarity with EHR systems (Hint Health or similar is a plus)
  • Experience in concierge, DPC, or private practice settings
  • Ability to multitask and adapt in a dynamic environment
