Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Phlebotomist to work in our medical office. In addition to overseeing our on-site lab, you would also be primarily responsible for recruiting and training volunteer staff members to draw blood and process labs.

The ideal candidate for this position is a dynamic, extremely well-organized leader who excels in both technical and interpersonal skills with a high level of situational awareness. Laboratory proficiency, a passion for mentorship, and a commitment to creating a positive workplace culture are essential. You will be pivotal in maintaining efficient clinical and administrative operations.

Our team includes one doctor, one nurse practitioner, and young volunteers eager to learn and grow. Our doors have been open for over 20 years serving the Albuquerque and New Mexico community. Key Responsibilities

  • Phlebotomy & Laboratory Skills: Perform and teach blood draws and laboratory procedures with a high degree of technical excellence, maintaining safety and accuracy at all times.
  • Teaching & Mentorship: Enjoy teaching, training, and mentoring—providing supportive, clear guidance for volunteers, new hires, and students.
  • Organization & Efficiency: Implement robust systems that optimize workflow, manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively, and ensure that every aspect of the office runs smoothly.
  • Technology Use: Utilize electronic health records, office software, and diagnostic/medical equipment confidently; troubleshoot and adapt to new technologies as needed.
  • Adaptability: Quickly learn new information and methods; accept feedback with professionalism and translate suggestions into real improvements in performance.
  • Professional Competence: Demonstrate a high level of skill in all assigned tasks; seek feedback to support continuous professional growth.
  • Volunteer Recruitment: Build connections with local high schools and colleges to recruit and onboard student volunteers and interns who align with the organization’s mission.
  • Scheduling: Maintain and communicate an accurate weekly staff schedule, balancing office and clinical needs efficiently.
  • Staff Supervision: Oversee and support a diverse volunteer team, fostering collaboration and respectful, inclusive working relationships.
  • Patient Interaction: Serve as a calm, empathetic point of contact for patients, using effective strategies to address concerns and challenges.
  • Records Management: Keep all documents, including staff personnel files and administrative records, up to date and organized.
  • Collaborate with clinicians to enhance operational efficiency and improve patient outcomes.
  • Implement policies and procedures that enhance office performance and ensure high-quality care.
  • Cover gaps in office duties as needed (phones, reception)

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (required)
  • Phlebotomy Certificate with minimum 5 years experience (required)
  • Adaptable, flexible, and oriented to service excellence
  • Outgoing, ability to speak in public and recruit volunteers from college and high school environments
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Inspirational leadership style with a compassionate, generous spirit
  • Experience in staff supervision, mentorship, and conflict resolution

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 28 – 36 per week
