Position Summary:
The Arkansas Tech University Office of University Relations seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of photojournalist. The successful candidate will help document and tell the story of Arkansas Tech University by capturing, publishing, sharing and cataloging still images representing the full breadth of the institution and its activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include a wide range of event photography, capturing individual and group photographs of achievers and award winners from within the university community, providing portrait photography services to faculty and staff during regularly scheduled sessions, capturing photographs depicting the academic and co-curricular programs of the university and creating an archive of stock images that represent the facilities, campuses and traditions of Arkansas Tech University.
The photographs generated by this position will be utilized in a variety of ATU communication initiatives, including outreach to media outlets, ATU social media, the ATU Alumni Association magazine, arkansastechnews.com and the ATU website.
The successful candidate will report to the director of university relations.
Some night and weekend work will be required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Skilled in taking high-quality photographs with professional-grade equipment.
Knowledge in editing and cataloging photographs.
Knowledge of news-gathering principles and techniques, including the elements of news value (timeliness, prominence, human interest, etc.).
Ability to build and maintain relationships with on-campus and off-campus constituents.
Knowledge of social media best practices.
Ability to manage a busy workload in a deadline-oriented environment.
Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in journalism, photography or a related field and 1 or more years of experience as a photographer producing professional-grade work; or, 10 or more years of experience as a photographer producing professional-grade work.
Preferred Qualifications:
Motivated individual with a demonstrated affinity for higher education who has a passion for contributing to a positive campus environment that supports students, faculty, staff, alumni and others by helping tell their story in a meaningful way.
Demonstrated success in brand building and/or storytelling through the art of photography.
Experience capturing and editing video.
Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:
Work requires some muscular exertion and/or physical strain such as standing for long periods of time, recurring bending or recurring lifting of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
Primary work location will be the ATU campus in Russellville, with occasional visits to the ATU campus in Ozark and occasional off-campus ATU events.
